Un proyecto de tratamiento de aguas residuales municipales a gran escala en Filipinas adoptó un sistema de UF como pretratamiento antes de la ósmosis inversa. El sistema de UF se diseñó con una capacidad total de producción de agua de 68.000 m³/d, lo que ayudó a que el agua tratada cumpliera los requisitos del agua de alimentación de la ósmosis inversa.
Se aplicó un sistema UF + RO en contenedor para tratar agua de pozo en Rumanía, consiguiendo una calidad estable del agua potable con una capacidad total de 23 m³/h.
