Fouling-resistant membranes feature a specialized surface and wider spacers, making them the better choice for complex wastewater reuse or surface water with higher biological and organic fouling potential.
With proper pretreatment (such as UF or multimedia filtration) and routine chemical cleaning, an industrial RO membrane typically lasts between 3 to 5 years. Severe fouling or scaling can shorten this lifespan, which is why monitoring normalized flux and pressure drop is critical.
